I got moved to ADSL2 a while back (?3 yrs) with promises of a faster and more reliable connection. It was all over the place for months, dropping out several times a day and often much slower than the previous 1Mb/s. After a while (many months) it seemed to get more stable and now stays up for several weeks at a go (sometimes, sometimes a few hours) but the speed is just the same as it was before. Totally pointless exercise if you ask me.

2Mb/s? Not in my lifetime! (Nearly true Dec 2011)

More than likely that I am teaching you to suck eggs, but, could you post the stats again when plugged into the test socket of the NTE, all else disconnected.

2db more attenuation than my line, which happily gave 18 meg sync when on ADSL2. That 29db snr is the indication that summat's amiss/the line can go faster.

There is clearly a fault somewhere, even if it is just a software setting somewhere in the system. On that attenuation you should be connecting at between 17Mbps and 19Mbps. You need to try to get past the 10-day waiting period barrier and get someone to take action now, as once the fault is fixed the 10 days will have to be re-initialised and run again. The results it is gathering are junk.

As a point of information, smile, the standard (ADSLx) connections in this country are ADSL and ADSL2+. ADSL2 is set only occasionally, but can occur when ADSL2+ is set and there are disturbances on the line.

G.992.1 = G.DMT = up to 8Mbps = ADSL Max.
G.992.3 = ADSL2.
G.992.5 = ADSL2+.

That might sound pedantic, but it could matter. If you talk to support people you will confuse them by talking about ADSL2 when that isn't what you are on. Though in the case of the person you spoke to not knowing what ADSL2 was I doubt if they would know what ADSL2+ is either.

That is a high SNRM when you get that to go down the speed should return... the mods should be able to help (that is who you contacted, they normally respond within 3 working days).

Thanks, I didn't know it was the mods I contacted (it was a BT branded page given to me earlier in this thread - http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4950).

Yes, I doubt "mod" is the correct word or even abbrev. It's just a specific BT Contact Us form.

Now if he had said "rocker" I could believe it wink

Have you tried a couple of Factory resets of the HH? APparently that cures a lot of things.

My connection has deteriorated even further, I'm now down to less than 2 meg, BT Vision will stop working soon I guess. Looks like it disconnected in the night.

I've had no reply to the form I filled out from BT yet, but I guess 3 days aren't up yet.
This 'renewal' is a nightmare, I'll probably lose BT Vision next.
