Re: New complaints Email address for BT infinity

And who knows what might happen in ten years time....the fibre might get pushed a bit closer and minicabs deployed or even FTTH.

Possibly was said to the BBC, but so much gets put on the cutting floor. As a guide where we have been consulted for shows it can be an hour or two on the phone explaining the issues and background, and that might get a 1 second of visibility on the TV screen, or nothing at all.

I think the average Watchdog viewer would turn over if attenuation, signal to noise ratio and vectoring were mentioned.

Easy enough to explain...

The majority of Infinity sold in the UK is limited by distance, this time from the green street cabinet rather than the phone exchange if you are more than two thirds of a mile from your cabinet you can probably only expect download speeds around 20 Meg.

Also as more people in an area buy the service the signals travelling down the telephone lines interfere with each other slightly can slow speeds down more, but there are technical solutions under trial to negate this slow down but no firm roll-out dates are available yet.

Would only dare to mention the tech terms if it was for a long written article with space for a short glossary.

If I'm right the girl also explained the difference between infinity and normal broadband as infinity uses fibre optics and broadband uses copper, didn't mention the copper from cabinet to your house/business bit. I know a bit pedantic.

And the BBC used to, but now its essentially dumbed down ("to compete") its getting really annoying.

James - plusnet unlimited fibre - 2 Jun 14 - 470m - Sync 55/9.4 (BT was 51/9.8)
15 years broadband (1999 ntl:cable trial) - Asus RT-AC68U with HG612 - PN BQM - PN speed - old BT speed

or crosstalk, high takeup means crosstalk which on BT's network can be pretty nasty.

I hope openreach are on the same wavelength as BT retail if they offering to send engineers out to enforce estimated speeds. Engineers I had at my address completely ignore the estimated speeds.
