It's my personal preference not to use deprecated web clients. If you want to use IE9 that's fine by me. I'm not trying to convert you.

I think you really meant "in a browser", not just a "web client". (Although that is the case in point in the thread).

Well they're not into they extended support cycle so it's pretty much just security fixes now. Security fixes won't keep the browser up to date in terms of supporting newer web technologies though.

I was addressing your question asking whether or not Microsoft had dropped support. Not whether or not new email clients need the latest features.

It comes from dealing with web servers, I like to use server/client terminology in my speak. So a web client is used to access a web server in my head. I probably should have used the word "browser" though, yeah.
