Trace out the route that you would walk and use the scale on the lower right corner to estimate it. The figure will not be an accurate one for line length however it will give something reasonable.

LOL!

But that figure seems about right.

I think the long and short of it (pardon the pun) is that I should not really be on the "up yo" 78meg Infinity 2.

When ordered the line checker on the BT site estimated between 60 and 80 which was clearly wrong.

Got word back from others in the same street since posting this, their speeds are all in the region of 30ish meg, none higher than mine, since I am pretty much at the beginning of the estate. But, they have all been sold Infinity 1.

As I said before, register your issue with BT and you should find a move to Infinity 1 quite easy.

Yeah will do, thanks smile

A straw poll of my estate has demonstrated that those who ordered online got offered 2 and those who ordered by phone were told that only 1 was available as we would not be able to achieve the speeds of 2, so, as Saffy said, being a new estate, I suspect there are issues with the online system, possibly making assumptions.

Out of interest, would changing the flimsy RJ11 cable that came with the HH5 for a nice beefy (what looks like cat 5) RJ 11 cable I bought a while back make any difference?

The chappy who came said no, and he also said no point putting cat 5 between the open reach box and the master.

Though, I am more inclined to go with the advice here.

It might improve it a little and worth doing. It IS worth using Cat5e there.

Will not make a major change to the attenuation which is what you need

But then if you have it worth a go but let line settle in before doing a lot of fiddling

there is a path measurement in google earth,
click the ruler button in the top line, and select either line (just between two points) or path
