Re: Swap HH5 for decent modem

Yup, done a reset, done everything in batboys links and still nothing.

Can I connect my Mac directly to the 612 and have a look at configuation that way?

How will my Mac get an IP address since it wont be aonnected to a router?

As i mentioned in an earlier post

how will I know the IP address

The default for a hg612 is 192.168.1.1.

You can change this if required after unlocking to meet your networks requirements.

edit: I see it is unlocked already....set your mac IP in the range 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.250 connect a lan cable to lan2 on the hg612....login to the modem (admin, admin)...Change LAN settings to meet your requirements.

Ok will give that a try tonight.

I assume LAN2 will just give me access to the web interface?

Ultimately I need to test to make sure the thing is working so, would I then connect to LAN1 to see if it has access to the net?

That's why I suggested connecting the modem to the HH5.

When you do finally access the HG612 you will need to change the default address. From one of your earlier posts you suggest that the APE uses the 10.x.x.x range so you will need to change the default to something such as 10.0.0.216

Ok I am now really confused:

- Why can I not change the DHCP range on the APE to be in the 192.x range?
- Can I connect my Mac directly to the 612?
- Why do I have to connect to LAN2 on the 612 to access the web interface?
- Is it the APE or 612 which is the DHCP server?
- Why am I being told there is no PPPoE server available?
- Anyone want to by an HG612?

I can't get into the 612 but why would it have bridge mode since it is only a modem, not a router?
It's a VDSL2modem/router in bridge mode. Unless once into it someone sets it to modem/router mode.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 57.2/15.3Mbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

Gahhhh I thought I was buying a dedicated modem!

So how is this any different to the HH5?

Hi NaNook,

I have a HH5 connected from the red port on the back via an ethernet cable to the HG612 on port 1. I think the HH5 is a pretty decent router for the consumer world.

The HH5 works out of the box with no special config which is why Batboy is asking you to try the HH5 instead of the APE. If your network can see the internet connected through the HH5 then it means that the HG612 is working correctly and that it's the config on the Apple APE that's the issue...

When you change the configuration on the HH5 it very often reboots the device which means that the FTTC line is also rebooted. Too many FTTC reboots and it can make your line go slower and slower. With the HG612 it takes care of the FTTC and you can reboot the HH5 (or the APE) as many times as you want with very little effect on the FTTC connection.

Plusnet unlimited FTTC
