6. Data rate: 9828 / 40000
7. Maximum data rate: 9452 / 49868
8. Noise margin: 5.5 / 9.8
9. Line attenuation: 33.9 / 22.8
10. Signal attenuation: 33.3 / 21.2
11. Data sent/received: 1.5 GB / 21.2 GB

the reason im asking last night my stats dropped my max data rate went d/l 46 and u/l 9.5 and snr went 5.6 up and 8.1 down

it usually hovers at 52-53 down and 10 ish up on the max data a rate and a snr 6.0db up and 11db down.

Edit - I missed a point. Thinking again, the fact your data rates haven't change but the noise margin has dropped to 5.5dB probably means you will lose some speed next time you reconnect. Sorry I missed that first time through.

Another correction - it's time I went to bed. The 40000 downstream will stay. The upstream may fall a bit.

Your data rate, which is the actual sync/connection speed, is still very much as it was. The drop in Attainable is common as other users get connected on FTTC at your cabinet. There is a kind of noise, called crosstalk, often occurs. Crosstalk is where two lines close to each other in a multi-line cable slightly interfere with each other.

If you want to see more about your line, and with luck improve your Attainable figure as insurance against more crosstalk over the coming months, you could buy an HG612 version 3B (which has a white power plug as well as a huge 3B on the label underneath) Openreach modem from eBay.

If there is a locked one a lot cheaper than an unlocked one, get it. If it's only a couple of pounds different get the unlocked one. Depending also on which seller looks best! They take about half an hour to unlock from finding the correct new firmware online, (we can point you to it), to having it up and running. You connect it to the VDSL socket at the master, and run the Ethernet cable that should come with it between its LAN1 port and the WAN port on the HH5A.

If it's a locked one, before doing anything about unlocking it first just connect it as I just described to make sure it works. You won't be able to see any stats from it at that stage, but you will be able to run speedtests to see if its in the right ballpark.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync 58162/14182kbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

You could be right about the new firmware for G.INP, but that doesn't affect crosstalk.

G.INP when working properly, i.e. both the cabinet and the customer's kit are enabled, largely replaces interleaving.

On ADSLx, except in special case interleaving didn't really alter the speeds. Just added a few ms latency. On FTTC it typically adds 8ms latency and drops the sync by up to 10Mbps.

The HH5B supported G.INP properly. The HH5A didn't. I haven't been following the HH5A history on G.INP, but I do know the cabinet has now had upstream G.INP disabled, causing much annoyance to several people. Either that, or that plus an HH5A firmware update, has got G.INP on both A and B working fine on the downstream.

thank u

i was thinking of either trying i know going to be hard to swap hh5a to a hhb5 or going out and getting a new router.

ive been pinging bbc and multiplay and pings are 9/10/11 ms but occasionally get odd high ping thats using hhb5 a so does that indicate anything?

As u know im on a huawei cabinet and u say likely upstream g.inp been disabled. if i got a new router would this be a problem with g.inp on up and down as my up been disabled?

thank u

It wouldn't be a problem, but what you may have trouble with is being sure it is fully G.INP compatible with the cabinet.

I suggest you look around a bit more on this BT forum and in the Fibre one here, plus the BT in-house forum to find out exactly what is happening re G.INP and the HH5A. But as I said, that is nothing to do with your loss of Attainable. Nor do you appear to be on interleaving, from those ping speeds, and the occasional high reading is quite common.

Unless you are not dissatisfied with the HH5A for some other reason, why not hang onto your money? Or add an HG612 as I suggested earlier.

Reading through the thread again, your 'issues' seem to stem from a presumption that G.INP is enabled on your cabinet, but if it's a relatively new Huawei cabinet (2-3 months), then this is likely not to be the case.

To give some perspective, I am located closer to a Huawei cabinet (which doesn't have G.INP enabled), and my pings are more than double yours, with occasional pings in the 30-40s. My other stats also vary to some degree, and have dropped slightly presumably due to crosstalk.

If you want to rule the G.INP side out of your head, I would do as RobertoS states and get hold of a HG612, but to be fair I would be tempted to stop worrying and just enjoy using the connection. smile

I think your best bet is to get a Huawei HG612 v3B from ebay and unlock it, or buy an unlocked one,
the 2nd best would be to buy a 3rd party device that is known to support G.INP,
the 3rd best would be to get a HH5B.

This 3 options will allow you to get the advantages of G.INP on your connection.
