In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
The 14 day reboot cycle avoids issues with software, presumed memory leaks so that after much longer the router starts to perform badly as it gets memory constrained. Some devices like Sky set-top boxes have had versions where periodic reboots speeded up the GUI etc.

I've never owned another router that needed to reboot itself every x days and they were able to run continuously without issue, so I just put the HH4 reboots down to suspect firmware programming.

One possible reason for the reboots is to change the IP address as they are supposed to be dynamic on BT.

Yes, as they are on Sky and TalkTalk in the main. But for the many BT customers who use their own router, they can hold their dynamic IP address for many weeks without issue.

Andrew
Many thanks for the advice regarding router/modems I can use dual band but congestion on the 2.4 GHz band is not a problem as there are no other houses within a mile.
This also explains why FTTC is not going to help and FTTP is not going to happen and i suspect the 10Mbit USO will not work either. Amazing as we are only 50 miles from Downing Street!

"Only"?

That's a quarter of the way to Manchester tongue.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.
