Odd.

As I said, the IP Profile shows you at or extremely close to 55Mbps. You don't have TV streaming or anything like that running at the same time?

No, nothing else running, multiple speed test have given the same results. I'm going to try swapping the WAN connection ethernet cable.... My googling found a link that suggests changing the BT cable: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/features/1893-replac...

Fixed!!!!

It wasn't the cable it was my router. I had QOS turned on and part of the configuration in QOS is the upload and download speeds for the connection. I had put in the values for the speed tests that I did with the old connection. It seems that QOS must cap the download speeds to those values (how silly). I've turned QOS off and my speed test is now 51.24 Mbps on the Wholesale speed checker!

I don't think I need QOS with a 51 Mbps connection anway, teach me to play around with router features! QOS will now stay off!

Great smile. Well spotted.

The IP Profile was the clue to it probably being your end somewhere, as opposed to the upgrade not having completed correctly.

It seems so but, in the absence of other traffic, it could allocate 100% of the actual bandwidth rather than 100% of the theoretical bandwidth. I could change the parameters now to reflect the upgraded speed but I will wait to see if I actually need QOS (I think the answer is that I don't).

Yes, thanks for your help. Knowing the IP profile was really useful and as you say helped me locate the problem.

QOS can speed up your downloads by prioritising outgoing ACKs wink
