Maximum data rate

I'm on Infinity 1, my HH5 says my max data rate is : 52895

Is this because Infinity 1 is up to 52Mbps or is it a coincidence that my line can only support 52,895Mbps ?

BT advertise 1 as up to 52 - it seems very specific to be a conincidence.

Coincidence.
The "raw" max sync rate is not 52 it's 55 so you are a bit below what is possible for the product.
You are limited by the 6.0 noise margin.

BT infinity 1 is up to 55Mb\s (but advertised as up to 52 Mb\s) so the connection speed would show up as or 54999 or 55000 on your HH5 if your line could handle it. It looks like the max your line can handle is slightly below at approx 52Mb\s. The max would always show the highest your line can handle. For example my max shows as approx 59700 but the connection is at 54999.

As the others have explained, your line is connecting as fast as it can go.

Infinity 1 is supplied using the Openreach 55/10 product. It is advertised by BT as 52/10 because of the Advertising Standards Authority rule that at least 10% of an ISP's customers must be able to connect at the advertised speed. It isn't capped at 52Mbps, you are just one of the 10% who can exceed it.

That also explains a BT fiddle of their statistics, that I don't know of any other ISP using. They will not supply Infinity on any line where the estimate is below 15Mbps. That means that anything slower is excluded from the calculation, making it easier for them to attain the 10% requirement.

It is a cheat of course. Though less so than it used to be. They used to supply the same 55/10 for these lower estimates, calling it "Faster Broadband with Fibre" instead of "Infinity". AIUI for these below 15Mbps lines they now provide "Faster Broadband" using the more recently introduced Openreach 18/2 product.

It also says you max upstream is 15725, although it's limited to 10000 on Infinity 1, so I'd say it's obviously a coincidence

Won't ever need to go for Infinity 2 then. I'm on an ECI cabinet so perhaps that is reducing sync speeds too.

Either way I'm happy with the performance apart from the HH5. Awful 5ghz LAN transfer speeds. 3MB/Sec vs 45-55MB/Sec on a Airport Extreme (same location & channel).

Need to keep the type A HH5 as it's an ECI chipset, real shame i have to run an AE alongside.
