I achieved download speeds of between 43Mbps and 51 Mbps, immediately after I had switched to BT - with upstream speeds of around 9 Mbps. There was little difference between the results using my Windows 7 laptop (WiFi connection) or my Windows 7 desktop (Ethernet connection).
See www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/148457978322005917133
Download speeds via the WiFi link have deteriorated within the past few months and last week, my broadband connection started to drop out repeatedly. However, between dropouts, I am achieving faster download speeds of almost 70 Mbps from my desktop computer (see www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/1506703327149731855). Download speeds from my laptop computer are still only 35 Mbps or less (see www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/1506697335188223255).
The WiFi link between my Win7 laptop and the HomeHub 6 router also disconnects regularly. For the first few minutes after each dropout, I cannot sign into the BT Smart Hub Manager at 192.168.1.254. When I eventually do manage to open the Home page, navigation between subsequent menus is sometimes very slow.
These symptoms could be caused by any number of factors, such as a problem in the telephone exchange or cabinet, a fault in the overhead wire that leads to my home, defective wiring within the property or faulty ADSL filters. However, the combination of repeated dropouts, the temperamental WiFi connection, and difficulty navigating between the router menus led me to suspect a problem with the BT Homehub 6.
The Home Page confirms that my service is Infinity (not Infinity 2 or higher) The technical Log provides the following information:

A telephone call to BT was not at all helpful. They performed line tests and asked me perform a factory reset on the router (which made no difference). Then, they asked whether I wanted to book an engineers appointment (costing £79.99, if the engineer identifies any problem with my equipment or the house wiring). They refused to send me a replacement Home Hub, unless I agreed to an engineers appointment.
I wonder whether the speed boost (which I did not request) is causing the problems with my broadband service, or whether the router (which is less than 9 months old) has developed a fault. Consequently, I dont know what to do because I certainly dont want to pay £80, if the engineer diagnoses a faulty router.
