To see if dodgy faceplate, remove face plate and use a micro-filter to connect the modem to the test socket and check what speed it says you are connected at.

What modem is it?

Looking at the bits I have acquired I have found an ADSL Adaptor that looks similar to the one fitted;

The one fitted is:-

https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2...

This is the another one I have;-

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&so...

The connections seems the same; sockets now side by side. Would it do any harm to put this in place of the suspect face plate?

scroll to images; mine also says V 1.0 and has blue plug at back.

If it fits and it works then it should be fine, but what's wrong with using the ADSL filter in the test socket?

In reply to a post by athegn:
Left modem alone (I take it that if I do that the exchange will not see another disconnection?) but rebooted HH4; still low:-

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/15068851542...
If your IP Profile is low, as it was, then that will only be changed by disconnecting/reconnecting, or rebooting, the modem.

When you have a socket >> modem >> router the router has nothing whatsoever to do with the connection speed. The connection speed is used by BT Wholesale to calculate the IP Profile.

As shown in effect in this post. Though even then the speed is dire, it is a lot better than before.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 72313/12530Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

If the other faceplate gives the same improved 11 Mbps then yes its fine, until you try it no one will know.

With the test socket giving a better result suggests either a dirty contact on faceplate (this does happen) or a fault with it, and the DLM should over a period of weeks relent to some extent.

Yesterday had problems with the phone, broadband solid connection if still only 11mb.

For some reason the new face plate will not now operate the phone; it did to start with.

Now any phone, wired or wireless, refuses to work on this face plate. Back to ADSL filter.

Went to Maplin but they only sell a similar plate to the new one I have:-

https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/kauden-telephone-and-vdsl...

reluctant to buy this as don't know whether or not it will operate phone.

The original BT face plate does not require any wiring if no extension required, my situation.

Why would the side by side socket face plate cease to operate phone?

Any advice
