Re: BT 4G Assure - use sim with 3rd party router

Try sliding the cover off.

If I had a PC, network, and access to my online accounts, rather than a vaporised master socket, hub, and the dongle, PC, &c were not fried, I could post an image.

The one I had in use, that is now fried, was on EE, the other, although working continually searches and does not connect was no network available. I know I am in. Vodafone not-spot, so it could potentially be that.

Once I get full connectivity, new PC, switch &c I will be able to see more!

Thanks for the tip, managed to open up the dongle:

Will try the sim in my phone later on using the BT APN and see if I can pull any data...doubt it but you never know!

I'd hide your IMEI as it's just a case of the provider tapping it in to the system to see who you are.

Just a work of warning, I was told that should BT see the dongle/sim in use (data usage) they will automatically raise a fault for the broadband, I don't know how true this is but thought you should know.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll just test the sim for a few mins in my phone purely to see if it works (not hopeful though) and then put it back in the dongle and let it collect dust smile

Tested the sim in 2 phones yesterday (iphone XS & Nokia 8) but didn't get any data connection. I used the APN settings from here:

https://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a...

So it appears the sim can only be used inside the dongle and possibly only on the supplied BT Biz router.

Use the Draytek as primary, and plug the BT router into the WAN2 port with the 4G Assure plugged into that.

Set the Draytek to fail over to WAN2 if WAN1 drops. At that point the BT Router won't have a line in it and will presumably fail to the 4g card. Bonus if you get the BT router into bridge mode, if not you might end up with some double NATing occurring until the primary service comes back online.

I assume that the BT Router will fail to the 4G card if there is no line/sync on its vdsl port.

Vodafone Fibre (Superfast2 - 80/20), Draytek 130, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 2
(Gone but not forgotten: AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)

This may cause an issue during normal use.

As the BT hub is not seeing a VDSL signal 4g will kick in and there is link between the SIM (IMSI) and line identity.

If data is being sent on the line and 4g is also sending a connection request the management system will see conflict and raise an exception report. The back end systems are designed to look for abuse and even though this is not, problems could occur.

Simplest way is to use the BT hub, in bridge mode, as the primary connection and the Draytek as router and switch.

I have been through various 4g Assure issues including an incorrectly assigned SIM. Once correctly recorded, everything worked fine.
