Re: Which Router for highest speed with BT ADSL2+ Internet?

Superb router for the money that never misses a beat, so good I havn't unsealed my two Fritziboxes. Put another in our Scottish property to replace a BT hub, that have crippled straight line Wi-Fi, their latest wheeze to sell their 'Whole home' disks!

I still got old Billion 8800nl but given to my parents for their FTTC 40/10 rock solid. They are good enough for 40/10 wifi 2.4GHz as well.

The OP initially mentioned "The BT Smart Hub 2 gave me pretty poor connection speeds of around 5.5Mbit/s 468Kbit/s" - might have been a typo and perhaps should have been 448 on the upstream?

Ah I did not notice it. Well spotted by you. I could not remember which applied to ADSL, ADSL2 & ADSL2+.
G.992.1 = ADSL
G.992.3 = ADSL2
G.992.5 = ADSL2+

Why would it be stuck at ADSL?

There is a post on the BT forum from back in 2015 where someone had the same problem. I am just reading it now.

I spoke to a woman at BT last night and after lots of tests she was happy with what I have. She did call me back once and later went away to do some more checking and probably asking someone who knew more and said that she would call me back again but did not.

I have a little more info now to mention to BT and ask them to fix it.

SKY ADSL 2/2+ Atten: 27dB to 27.5dB up, 49dB to 49.5dB down
Still using SpeedTouch 546v5 and looking for 6.1.4.3 firmware currently stuck with 5.4.0.11

I don't know what BT retail support can do - probably best to get a Billion router and see if it, by default, automatically syncs with ADSL2+ modulation...

In the XDSL settings of speedtouch there should be an option to select individual such as G992.1 G992.3 G 992.5 Or ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+ Rather than multi. Just select the one of last G992.3 or ADSL2 and reboot.

I have just been trying the speedtouch 546. It is not allowing any other modulation other than ADSL. I am using DMT tool to specify what I want but it is not syncing with anything but ADSL.

I have set DMT tool to ADSL2+ but it will not do it. Lowering the SNRM to 4.0 and it has synced at 6944 Kbps (45.0 dB atten)/ 448 Kbps (26.0 dB atten & 22.0 dB SNRM). The Smart Hub 2 did get to 69xx yesterday without adjusting the margin

I have just tried saving the defaults with DMT tool and the router rebooted but it is still synced with only ADSL.

40/10 that will stream several HD streams is more than fast enough for 90% of the population, despite the obcession for rediculous high priced high speeds for everyday family use. I assume you handle Zen backhaul Lol

That would be exceptional performance for the new deliberately Wi-Fi crippled Hub. Ours would not hold a clear straight line connection across a large room. Well documented on the web and the latest wheeze to sell Whole home disks!
