BT to Zen

[link to this post]

I am with BT Full Fibre 500 with Halo 3 and a VOIP phone. My contract expires in November and I'm going to move to a similar package with Zen which will save me close to £20 a month?
BT has never fallen over so I'm unsure if Halo 3 is actually worth it. I don't think I need a VOIP phone either as I can rely on my mobile.
Are there any downsides to my plan?

I moved to Aquiss on a similar deal. Halo 3 did nothing really for me, never used it. Landline (digital voice) wasn't needed as only one person had the number after our last landline change and we gave them our mobile number instead. BT mobile phone contracts can be pretty cheap but if you aren't using that Halo 3 benefit then nothing to lose there either. There are a few other benefits still I think with BT such as virus checkers and online storage (if they still do that) but I never used those benefits so didn't matter there either.

I was with Zen for 4 years on 900mb service but just moved to Aquis for £27.50 no issues at all on the move and getting better ping rate than with zen

I would definitely think at least twice before moving to Zen even if Zen was over £20 cheaper.

I changed from Zen FTTC 80/20 mbps to Zen FTTP 900 mbps about three years ago and although Zen FTTC had been good Zen FTTP was dire at the start; then on and off poor for three years and even though I had Zen Price For Life, (of just over £50 per month for Zen 900 mbps FTTP), I moved to BT about six weeks ago and it has been a good move as BT is much better.

Prior to moving to BT I asked on this board and I am pleased that I moved from Zen to BT as on the whole BT is much better.

At present the BT price, (via a 2 year offer deal is lower at £41 per month for 900 mbps FTTP but I realize that the BT monthly cost is likely to be much higher after three years but it was definitely a good move.

A Price For Life is OK if the quality is good but useless if the speed and performance is poor it is worthless.

Personally, I would say that if you are happy with BT other than the price I would recommend that you stay with BT as price is much less important a consideration than the line speed and the line performance / quality.

If you decide move to Aquiss and you need your own router there are many routers to choose from but I have used an Asus RT-AX88u for some years: I presently use an Asus RT-AX88u Pro with BT and I am very happy with that router.

Worth noting that Zen's "Price for Life guarantee" was discontinued for new contracts on 1st June 2022, and replaced with their "Zen Contract Price Promise" - meaning no price rises for the duration of your contract.

Given the rate of inflation, I'd say this was an understandable change.

Thanks for your feedback.
BT has been solid so maybe I should stick with it.
