Intermittent fault

Last week or so we've had random brief dropouts on our BT fibre service. When this happens, I've seen the PON light on the ONT either go off for a second or so, or flash on/off for a couple of seconds. The router seems to recover OK after a a minute or so. The TV ( via a BT box) stalls and reports channel unavailable. We've already had an OR engineer re-splice the connection on the box just outside the house as the first response. Subsequent discussion and checking by BT online agents hasn't exactly inspired much confidence. Next engineer visit is next week - but I'd appreciate any suggestions about possible causes.

(ONT has been powered off/on and router factory reset. Plugs/leads all sound as far as one can tell.)

First thing, have you checked if your neighbours on the same PON are having the same issue? if they are then its likely to be an issue between OLT and splitter if not its likely to be an issue between the splitter and you.
