Speedtouch 546 - minimum SNR

Have been playing about trying to get decent stability on a long line. At the moment it appears that the best I can achieve is a synch rate of about 2000kb/s.
This is the same with the Speedtouch and my old Netgear DG814.
It appears that in the evening (about 10:30 usually) at a synch rate of 2400 kb/s the SNR dips from 12.5 to about 8 and then it resynchs at about 1920kb/s with an SNR of 12.5
I've tried changing filters but it hasn't had an effect.
Is this just a very noisy line or is there something wrong with the Speedtouch that stops it holding synch down to an SNR of about 6.

Yeah, the same sort of thing happens on my line at night, SNR margin drops by a large amount after sunset. You could try DMT Tool and messing about with the noise margin tweak.

I have been playing with that and it seems that the highest stable synch rate is 1920 kb/s.
Will now monitor it for the next few nights to see what the minimum SNR is although last nights csv file showed it didn't drop below
Still not sure why the speedtouch won't hold synch down to 6 or 7db

I had same problem with my Speedtouch 576.
In the day i could sync about 4800Kbps with 13 SNR, Then in the evening it would drop to 6.5 SNR and resync.My old netgear DG834G v2 could hold sync below 6.From memory it went below 0 into negative range before a resync.

I also mess around with the noise margin tweak but I only alter the first option box, should I experiment with the other settings?

I wish there was an English FAQ on the DMT Tool to give me some idea of what settings to enter

I wouldn't mess with the other settings, you can send the router and/or DSLAM into a real tizzy.

My Speedtouch 516v6 doesn't like going below 6db, so I just muck about with the margin until it doesn't do that. It's not an exact science tho...

I suspect I've got a dodgy router as it just resynched with an snr of 13.5

Is it possible that BT have changed the DLM to sync you at a higher level if it saw your line as unstable ? Might be worth checking with your ISP if youre on a MAX line.

Thats unlikely as the snr after resynch was 12.5 which is what I have now
I know I'm on Max as my synch speed has been steadily dropping from 3,400kb/s to try to achieve stability
