Whats best internet connected or not

[link to this post]

Hi I would like some advice from you experts ref MAXDSL, is it best to leave my internet connection on or should it be turned off, I am not referring to turning the router off just the internet connection when not in use. The reason I ask is the speedtouch Modem I am using will drop sync in the middle of the night when I am getting some zzzzzzs and reconnect at a low speed, but all the time I do a manual restart it syncs at 5000+.

I have tried using the DMT tool but it does not help as every time it tries to sync at the highest rate and it will not hold a steady lower rate, What is frustrating is having 7 days at 5000kbps then due to a resync droping down to 1500kbs, would havin no internet activity help?

If you're seeing line drops and subsequent low syncs I'd be inclined to drop the connection when not using it (as in disconnect the modem) the low syncs will/should be dropping your BRAS profile so you never see data rates above the low sync.....

The other thing to do would be to check out your extension wiring to make sure that there's nothing amiss with it - you don't have a Sky box plugged in with no filter (or a faulty filter) or something do you ? (It might attempt dial back in the early hours and cause the behaviour you describe)

Thanks for the reply I know that the BRAS get adjusted if my sync drops but what is strange is my modem do not reboot it was on 5228 with 8db SNR then internet stops and if I view my DSL status page SNR shoots up and I am syncing very low sometimes 960 then immediately reboot and it syncs at 5888 with a SNR 6db.

I do not have any extensions the BT cable comes in from outside to the hall direct to a NTE5 filtered face plate with my modem connected to it and 1 cordless phone, I did this for the pure reason of eliminating any internal wiring defects.

Why does my router always try to hit 6db when during the night this value drops sooooooo much that it causes my modem to resync and as it does it syncs at such a low speed, is there any way of stabilising this, I have tried the DMT tool but it makes my modem resync more often. Would it not make more sense if my modem told my exchange that I want to synch at 4000.
