I'm having nightmare problems with my wireless adsl router setup. It began with ADSL problems. That's been largely cured with an XTE-2005 faceplate (although I still get wildly fluctuating SNR) but now I have the major problem that one of my two computers doesn't like connecting to it.
Sometimes it works perfectly, with approx. 60% signal strength. Then, at other times, it gets lots of drops. Often it can see the router but cannot get past the 'acquiring network address' bit. I can see from the router logs that the router is trying to send it an IP but the computer isn't hearing it.
I've tried everything I can think of - two different USB cards, swapping out the radio mouse/keyboard, re-installing and updating Windows XP, etc... The thing is, the cards seem perfectly happy in my other computer.
I've googled this problem and it seems that quite a few people get this 'one computer on the network' intermittent problem. Unfortunately, recommended solutions either haven't worked for me or aren't applicable.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I haven't got a clue what to do next. Maybe send the router back (its a 3Com).
Thanks, Joe
