Trying very hard to setup non-NAT mode (/29)

[link to this post]

Before I got mad, and spend yet another 5 hours tonight trying to get this router to work in non-NAT mode can someone tell me if what im doing is right?

Firstly I was told I have a /29 from UKFSN/Enta

87.127.80.33/29

So, I have used 255.255.255.248 as the Subnet Mask, 87.127.80.33 as the router IP, 87.127.80.0 as the network mask and 87.127.80.34-87.127.80.39 as DHCP ip's

Yet I put this lot in and it doesn't like it and resets the router IP to 10.0.0.138

Help needed

I assume you are using the built-in data (custom) template to configure the router? You should enter 87.127.80.32 in the LAN (sub) network address box. everything else is right

Yep I am using that,

I have now managed to get the network IP's setup ok, but now it wont connect to the Internet with the error

"Disconnected by user"

I have re-entered my login details and reset the router, but it just keeps giving me that. My Netgear connects perfectly fine however.

Ok now this is getting annoying

This is exaclty what I am doing:

Reset router using pin on the back, waiting for it to come back online and entering web interface.
Running the built-in Setup Wizard (firmware 5.4), selecting Data (Custom) and entering the following infos:

Private(without-NAT):

IP Address of Speedtouch: 87.127.80.33
Ethernet Subnet: 87.127.80.32
Ethernet Mask: 255.255.255.248

DHCP Enabled:

First: 87.127.80.34
Last: 87.127.80.38

These are what I assume are the correct details given that I have a /29 from UKFSN/Enta.
The wizard finishes fine.

However, under:

Home > Home Network > Interfaces > LocalNetwork

The IP Addresses part says:

10.0.0.138/24 Static
192.168.1.254/24 Static

The DHCP Pool says:

LAN_custom 87.127.80.34 - 87.127.80.38 87.127.80.33
but if you edit it the "Server" field is set to 10.0.0.138

So, I add 87.127.80.33 under "IP Addresses" and update the DHCP "Server" field to 87.127.80.33 as well, then reboot the router and remove:

10.0.0.138/24 Static
192.168.1.254/24 Static

from "IP Addresses", then a quick reboot and DHCP is picking up the right details and everything appears fine, except it isn't as now although the DSL is synced up it won't connect with the error:

"Last Error Message: Disconnected by user "

And it wont connect until I take out 87.127.80.33 from under "IP Addresses", then it will connect fine.

So, anybody have any suggestions? As im out of them and all in favor of having a burning the Speedtouch bonfire.

This is from the UKFSN help pages

No-NAT Configuration [top]
When setting up an NO-NAT (sometimes called routed IP) connection please ensure you do the following:

1. You have a NO-NAT compatible router
2. NAT is disabled on the router
3. DHCP is disabled on the router
4. Make sure the WAN and LAN IP addresses are the same and the first IP address in your range as stated on the Partner Site.
5. Make sure that the subnet mask is also the same for both the WAN and LAN on the router. For NO-NAT8 the subnet mask would be 255.255.255.248, or for an NO-NAT16 the subnet mask will be 255.255.255.240
6. For all machines that connect to the router will need to be statically assigned an IP address from the NO-NAT range. With a NO-NAT8 you will have 5 usable IP addresses after the router IP. You must also ensure that the subnet mask entered statically on the PC matches the subnet mask entered into the router in point 5 above.

generally its a misconception that you have to "turn off" NAT or DHCP, after all what happens if you add a client beyond the number of available fixed IP addresses. Use NAT and DHCP for those that need it and route the /29 of those that don't

I agree. But if the OP can get it working the way UKFSN suggests then he has a solid starting point for configuring it differently.

I use Multi-NAT on my Zyxel. All machines have local IP but the servers respond to their allocated public IP and all workstations are NATted through a single public IP. (DHCP is provided by a W2003 server and not the router)
