ADSL Modems On MAX

[link to this post]

I'm on the MAX product with Freedom2Surf with a Sagem F@st 800 modem. Sync is always good, around 7.6mbps, was actually syncing at 8.2mbps at first. I average between 5-6mb actual speeds. Only problem with it is that sometimes when i turn on my computer it disables itself for some reason after trying to sync, and i have to either reboot my PC or unplug the modem and plug it in again to get it working.

Anyway, about a month ago i came across a brand new, boxed Alcatel Speedtouch modem(the big green ones), an old Freeserve one, in the bargain basket of my local Cash Generators for 99pence and thought i'd give it a try. Anyway, it was a load of garbage. Only synced at about 5mbps but the fastest actual speed i could get out of it was 2mb. Oh well, at least it was worth 99pence for the micro filters!

Well, today when i went in they had a BT Voyager 105(an AOL one), fully boxed again, and brand new with all 3 microfilters etc in the bargain basket for 99pence. So i thought great, these are pretty new(probably about the same age as the Sagems), so i thought it should be just as good as the Sagem for handling MAX. Anyway, i just installed it and the Max it will sync at is 5.7mb, about 2mb less than my Sagem, and my speed test results are only 2.7mbps. Very disappointing.

Has anyone managed to get decent speeds with MAX using the BT Voyager 105? Or even better, any advice on getting the most out of the Voyager?

I bought a TP link 8800 on ebay, connects at 4mb which is right for my line/distance to exchange and when on a download I get full speed, you may want to try that, it comes with an ethernet port!

I'm going wireless eventually, just can't afford it at the moment, so this Voyager 105 is just to tide me over till i have the cash. So theres no point in me buying a wired router. I could get a BT Voyager 205 for
