Speedtouch 585 v6, firewall rules?

[link to this post]

Evening folks..

So I thought I'd try out a Speedtouch 585 as they seem highly rated - at least for sync speed. True enough, it syncs high enough to get a 2.5Mb IP profile (vs. 2Mb on my Vigor 2600VG)

However it seems that it's not as stable :-/ It just lost sync - or, rather, it didn't lose sync but did lose the ability to transmit any data - thus PPPoA couldn't be brought up, and it needed a hard reset to bring it back to life. Anyone else had that? Like I say, it didn't drop DSL sync, but couldn't transmit any data down the line anymore (looking in DMT tool it's lost the high bits due to an SNR drop).

But more annoyingly than that, every time I reboot the router all my firewall rules disappear - and with no firewall rules.. I have zero internet access :-/

Any ideas, Speedtouch owners?

A few people have had the 'ppp down but dsl up' problem. For me this seems to have been fixed by reverting to an earlier firmware version [6.1.0.5] I had been using the very latest one.

Thanks for that James

I don't suppose you have the firmware file lying around? I could swear I found a Speedtouch site with them all on recently, but all I can find now is the latest file located at www.speedtouch.co.uk ..

Thanks,
Aaron

Thanks James (and 423) - after much fiddling around (the upgrade really doesn't play nice if you have DHCP disabled on the Speedtouch, and another DHCP server on the network ) I managed to get the older firmware on there

The Firewall rules still seem to go walkies, but hopefully the sync-but-no-ppp will be fixed. At least with this version it reverts the Firewall rules to 'fully open' rather than the latest version, which removed all rules (thus severing all outbound connectivity.. d'oh!)

I had the same problem of synch with no internet (see my post 11th Oct "Speedtouch 585 not performing") and would be interested to know if the different firmware has worked for you.

So far yep - the router has lost sync a few times, though I think that's partly down to me playing with the DMT tool (if it's set to anything other than the default target sync then it drops a lot)..

But I've had zero sync-but-no-PPP outages since flashing - granted it has only been a day..
