Modem will not sync via filtered faceplate.

[link to this post]

I recently had ADSL enabled on the main phone line (Namesco) using the supplied Zyxel modem/router and filter; all working normally. I then fitted a filtered NTE5 faceplate, however although the phone works OK the modem will not sync. Going back to the original faceplate and filter works again. Any ideas?

My only thought is that there are a couple of extentions spurred off *before* the master socket (all filtered) that may be interferring somehow - this wiring was done before I bought the house.

Have you got the modem connected to the correct output ? Are you trying to connect your modem to the filtered (phone) output ? Modems don't need any filtering (they won't work if fed via a filter).

Since the sockets for the modem and phone are different types, there is no possibilty of mixing them up. The modem was plugged into the RJ11 socket which was labelled for ADSL. I also swapped the faceplate with one on from my business ADSL, same result.

Where are your incoming cables (from BT) connecting to - the faceplate or the back half of the socket to the A&B screw terminals?

Plenty of BT plug to RJ11 leads around, adaptors, microfilters etc - you wouldn't have been the first to try to run ADSL off the phone side or a filtered extension so folks are right to check for potential mistakes.

To the back of the faceplate.

the incoming line should connect to the back of the backplate, the plug in faceplate (filtered or otherwise) is for the connection of extension wiring.

Seems you can mix up the connections after all

Quite. Sometimes the original install is done wrong and people duplicate what they encounter onto the filtered faceplate.

Spot on. I should have noticed that the other ADSL connection (which was working fine with the filtered faceplate) was wired differently. I guess prior to broadband the two connections methods were effectively the same.
