Double ST5x6 question

[link to this post]

Hi,

How is an ST546v6 made "Pingable"?

How is a profile set to 5056/288 Kbps?

I tried

There's no such profile. Do you mean sync? With a 288 upload sync looks like you're on LLU.

Hi,

All right. Using TelNet management i verified i'm
on a 5056/800 Kbps profile via the "adsl info" CLI
command (Downstream Available Bandwidth=5056 Kbps,
Upstream Available Bandwidth=800 Kbps). On a GNet
BB0060B device the syntax differs (i type "get dsl
params" instead) but i see the same numbers unless
i define TxStartBin/TxEndBin & RxStartBin/RxEndBin
manually (e.g. to 8/14 and 36/248 respectively)...

Please, feel free to suggest the proper appelation
for my 5056/288 Kbps, ahummm... setup! Then show
me how the SpeedTouch 546 UpStream frequency range
can be reduced so that less power is dissipated in
its transmitter stage and hence less noise will be
injected in the DownStream band, consequently. It
happens that my old GNet BB0060B MoDem deals quite
nicely with noise if i compare it to my ST546v6 in
Thomson's default configuration. Can you help me?

You are talking rubbish ...

How can the upstream transmissions inject noise into the downstream frequency band. Before you start pretending to know something maybe you should learn about it.

Can you elevate the discussion's level with a better explanation?

This is therory translated into practice:

I'm afraid the Speedtouch 546 does not allow such configuration.

Hi ZeroFlux,

I wasn't fully aware of the opaque tangent adopted
by the late Thomson team in Brussels when i bought
my ST546v6, no bargain would have been good enough
if i had known to what extent later FirmWares were
crippled (by design) just to disable the 3rd-party
utility tools like 'DMT'. At the moment, the GNet
BB0060B device reduces the rate of errors fourfold
when compared to Thomson's ST546v6 model which has
a net theoretical advantage, in terms of maturity:
three more HardWare versions and a couple years of
FirmWare development, but what for?!... Anyway, i
welcome any suggestion about a tweakable and 'DMT'
friendly alternative like my GNet because you must
be right; i probably used too much of my time and
energy just to overcome the ST546v6's limitations!

I'm sure that with a suitable FirmWare the ST546v6
would beat an old GNet BB0060B no sweat but that's
not likely... Any idea what i should have bought?

No,I don't have a clue lol, I've got 3 different routers and they've all got problems on my MAXDSL line

I agree Thomson has wrecked the v6 line with these restricted firmwares, so I don't use my 516v6 anymore.

I'm still looking for the 'perfect' router
