Edimax
BT
Netgear
Thomson
SMC
Zonet

I use a Dell Wireless 1450 Dual-band (802.11a/b/g) USB2.0 Adapter with my 585v6 - works fine.

In early days of 802.11 I would always try to use matching components as they seemed to hold up better. But now, any reputable brand should be fine - my home network has Dell, Intel, Nokia, Thompson, D-link and Belkin working to it.

If a adapter supports wpa but not wap2 is it still good security or would it be better to go for wpa2.Also i see some adapters only support wep,are they worth buying.Any thoughts on the security side is welcome.

There is no practical difference between WPA and WPA2. WEP security is hackable and should probably only be used if WPA/WPA2 is not available.

Thanks for the help.

Iwas loking at this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-WG111-Wireless-54Mbps-Adapter/dp/tech-data/B0002LHX8O/ref=de_a_smtd/203-8724493-1070360?ie=UTF8&qid=1191874233&sr=8-1

but in its description only gives wep,on other sites it says it supports wap, maybe the amazon description has got it wrong?

The site I looked at suggests it is WEP only.

I would recommend buying a refurbished unit

http://www.dsldepot.co.uk/product_details.asp?idProduct=827

which does support WPA.

No need for a cable, it just plugs in like one of those memory/disc dongles.
