Speedtouch USB - losing sync

[link to this post]

I am having to run on the old (previously) trusted "stingray" (Thomson/Alcatel Speetouch USB) while my Ethernet modem is used elsewhere... When I've reinstalled the Speedtouch USB with all the latest drivers, etc, I manage to get online OK but for some reason I can only be connected a few minutes at at time, then suddenly the green ADSL light starts flashing (it "loses sync") and it disconnects. It usually reconnects within about 20 seconds, but then after this has happened a few times, the light goes red, stays red, and it refuses to connect again. The only way round this is to reboot the PC and after reboot both lights are green again.

I never had this particular problem with the Ethernet modem.

I have disconnected all other USB devices, etc, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Is it time to bin the Speedtouch USB for good, or is there an easy fix to this?

Rather than rely on the Stingray - why not just buy a cheap modem with an ethernet interface? The low cost - if you are not too fussy about functionality will be worth it for getting rid of te hassle.

The Stingray was good - in its day but well past it now.
