VPN Setup

[link to this post]

Hello,

I am looking to setup a VPN server in the home. I have a router that allows for VPN passthrough, and I am looking for a dedicated box to serve the VPN, allowing access to the local network.

I am looking at the netgear prosafe boxes for this kind of functionality. Will the netgear FVS114, for example, allow me to give it a local IP, forward some ports from my main firewall, and extend the network for VPN access? If not, are their any cheapish boxes which allow for this kind of functionality?

Cheers

Jan

You could look at a router with built-in VPN functionality.

My DrayTek routers are ideal for that.

Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

I have a nice firewall setup atm, and it seems strange that a lot of routers have VPN passthrough on them but there is a lack of consumer standalone VPN solutions.

Anyone used any of the VPN enabled routers as a standalone VPN network extender?

Cheers

I went for a no-thrills solution, since I leave a couple of machines on all the time I simply run VMWare Server (which is free!) and ran this the TinyServer PPTP virtual machine on it -

theres quite a few different VM's already built for you, take your pick.

I also have a Buffalo Live Station NAS, which runs linux, so I just setup PopTop on it.
