Linksys WAG 54G DSL Modulation - Firmware upgrade

I have a Linksys 54G V1 Modem/Router and need to be able to change the DSL modulation settings via the WEB interface (192.168.1.1)
However there is no option to do this with my present firmware.
I am stuck on G,dmt/Interleaved
Has anyone upgraded the firmware of this router to enable other options for DSL modulation?
If so could you point me to the correct firmware.
So far I have be able to establish the board is ANNEX A.

What do you want to change? Is it for a new ISP and ADSL2+?

I have been with Virgin ADSL for a while now and have recently upgraded/replaced
my main BT Socket and all internal and external wiring.
My son,who is connected to the same exchange and uses the SAME router
has access to ADSL2+ through the router set up but I have'nt.
He remembers upgrading the firware but cant remember which version.
Just thought someone may know if an upgrade will allow me the option
to try different DSL Modulation modes.

Though if you are on an up to 8Mbps package from Virgin then G.DMT is almost certainly correct. Who and what is your son connected to?

He is with TALKTALK - The exchange is LLU for TalkTalk but NOT VirginADSL.
I suspect your previous post intimates there is nothing I can do?

Yes, I didn't think to check first. Virgin do not do ADSL2+, only ADSL(1) which you are on. So G.DMT is correct and must not be changed.

TalkTalk is ADSL2+, only their up to 8Mbps product is restricted to 8Mbps instead of the full up to 24Mbps that ADSL2+ can achieve..

Do you know if BT Total Broadband is ADSL2+ as they have a package which
is almost exactly the same price as my present Virgin package.

No it isn't.

What exchange are you on, then I can tell you what ADSL2+ you can get. Though to know whether it would benefit you we need the results of a BT speed test and your line stats. (Either will do, both is better).

ADSL2+ doesn't necessarily give you any extra speed. Those figures will tell us what it should give you.

The exchange is known as APPLEY BRIDGE.
I have tried the BT Speed Tester numerous times and the results I get have been all over the place.
However since I had a new BT Master socket fitted and new external wiring as well as ripping out all the old extensions I seem to have a fairly steady,solid connection around
3680Kbps with an IP Profile of 2500Kbps.
The BT Wholesale test suggests a maximun of 4.5Mbs for my line.
However as you will see below I did (just a fairly short time) have a rate of 5792Kbps
with an IP Profile of 5000kbps.
This appeared suddenly but only lasted for a short while before dropping back.
I have no idea why this happened and was sad to lose it

Ummm

Even if we could find the cause of the drop from 5792 to 3680 I don't think ADSL2+ would necessarily give you much improvement. The line stats would make it clearer if you could find them, and they might give a clue to why the speed dropped as well.

I don't think the line is quite as stable as you think. To have a profile of 2500 you must have connected at between 2848kbps and 3392kbps within the last 5 days. That could be caused by re-connecting when it is dark though, and wouldn't mean anything was the matter.
