SSE Broadband with a BT Smart Hub 2?

[link to this post]

Hi.

Can a BT Smart Hub 2 be used with another ISP?

I'm trying to use one with SSE fibre connection but am getting this error when entering my username: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CBFDBB8deUe3QDZq7

No the Smart Hubs only understand BT and Plusnet username domains

Shame that it's locked. Grrr.

Can you recommend an upgrade on the standard technicolor modem/router?

Will teh Technicolour work in modem only bridge mode? If so, you can use the Smarthub as a router.

I really only want the one device - not a separate modem & router.

Currently looking at the previous version of the Smart Hub - some suggest that it can accept any username (not just BT ones)

If the technicolor is in bridge mode then the PPPoE is handled by the router and that is a smart hub with its domain locking

What's your budget? Many options out there but the best option (for you) will depend on what you are willing to spend.

£150 - I have looked but there doesn't seem to be one outstanding option.

Feel odd that this was a best buy in 2014 though - was hoping for something more up-to-date
