5G mobile data router

[link to this post]

We're disconnecting a FTTC service and plan to use mobile data. There is plenty 4G and we're on the edge of 5G coverage but enough to get a signal.

Looking for recommendations for a 5G router. Actually maybe one that will connect up with the existing FTTC router so its just a modem and the router does the WiFi etc. Planning on using an EE based service (but not EE!). Perhaps the option for an outdoor antenna to make the most of the 5G?

Thanks!

There are quite a few unlocked zyxel nr5103e v2 devices on eBay that might be worth a look

the v1 is better in some ways but some units have faulty 5g radios

Nice device but a bit pricey? Also like the fact it has bridge mode. If it wasn't so expensive, I might be tempted. It seems hard to get a "modem" only SIM device, most I've seen are Routers, and no bridge mode.

Alternatively, configure your existing router as a wireless access point only (which basically means just disabling the built-in DHCP server, and connecting to the LAN port instead of a WAN port).

Then you can choose any 4G/5G router you like.

I have a few Teltonika RUTX50 routers deployed and they are rock solid. The modem-only equivalent is the TRB500.

If you want it outdoors then you can put it inside enclosures designed for it, such as https://www.quwireless.com/product/qumax-teltonika-t...
