Which will give best download speed

[link to this post]

I will be moving to ADSL Max on 12 April 2006. I have compared 2 adsl routers and 1 adsl modem figures. Which one of the following offer the fastest download for my line from the following information.

3Com officeconnect adsl wireless router:

either of the latter two, which have the same stats. Plug the numbers into http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed.php

Andrew, even states in his review the 3Com is fast.

Go for the 3Com Office Connect 3CRWDR100A-72-UK wireless modem/ router ADSL2/2+ a professional bit of kit at a low price with backup second to none.

It is so easy to set up. I think the 3Com modem/router software must be one of the best for clarity and ease of use. I went for it after seeing the reviews for the earlier model on this invaluable ADSLGuide Website.

Did you even read the post?

This 3Com router you keep recommending is a load of rubbish - that screenshot shows it's got a poorer SNR than the other two modems and so will probably sync lower than them.

Thanks for your replies. After a lot of investigation I have purchased a Billion 7402VGL VOIP Router. Have set it up and as you can see from the following photo the SNR margin has improved greatly. The only problem is that the stats are reversed, Upstream should be downstream.

Can't wait till 12 Apr when my line is converted to Adsl Max.

I downloaded it from the following site, if you go there they have the latest firmware for the billion routers.

As you can see from my previous posts I have been checking the SNR stats on my line with different ADSL routers/modems. The SNR has varied between the different routers by as much as 8. The worst readings were from the 3com officeconnect wireless router, SNR = 18.5 and the best were from the Billion 7402VGL router, SNR = 26.5.This morning I decided to reconnect the 3com but using the PSU from the Billion, to my surprise the SNR jumped up to 23.5. I then tried the 3com PSU and the SNR dropped to 18. So it appears the 3com PSU is somehow degrading the SNR on the line.

This may help explain the drift in the SNR figures some people are experiencing.

This is extremely interesting to me, thanks. I've been experiencing some very strange behaviour on my ADSL line whilst using one of the 3COM OfficeConnects, and had to revert to plugging my old BlueDSL modem into it to maintain the signal. I had noticed that even switching the 3COM on degraded the SNR stats, and the PSU was getting really hot too. Maybe this gives me another avenue of investigation. I'll report back on my findings (Assuming I can find a compatible PSU).
Thanks! :-)

I find this very interesting too and it makes me think it would be a good idea to try a compatible power adaptor, after the discovery with the Billion type.

I find my 3Com power adaptor is quite hot and the modem/router runs barely warm, as far as I know I don
