2Wire Router

[link to this post]

Hi guys,
got a truly weird one here. I have a BT supplied 2Wire 2700 router. If I turn on my portable TV (its about 12' away from the router) I lose my broadband. Router just flashes as it retries. Switch the tv off and it re-negotiates straight away. Gonna do some more tests - i.e see how far away the tv must be etc; Never seen a problem like this before. The only thing I can think of is some electical interference ?

Very probably. Some TVs, PCs and monitors are notorious for generating all kinds of electromagnetic crud across the range of frequencies that ADSL uses (~25 - 1100 KHz). Keeping such things well away from your router may solve the problem.

Thanks.
Just couldn't believe it. Is it the crappy tv set or the crappy router?

How old is the TV ? I'd be inclined to think it was the TV rather than the router - can you try it near another TV to be sure ?

Just out of curiosity! are all the BT business hub branded router always hardware identical with the 2wire 2700HGV model or are there different models. Well, I am thinking of getting one to play with (...unlock it), heard they can achieve 4x times the legal RF limits in the EC (e.g. upto 400mw)
