Alcatel Speedtouch on ADSL Max

[link to this post]

I have a Speedtouch Home upgraded to a Pro (router) and have found that since switching to 8Mbits my connection occasionally slows right down. This is fixed by power-cycling the modem, but not by disconnecting/reconnecting. It seems to happen at random; I had to restart it yesterday when it had already been restarted at the weekend, but before that it took about a month before problems occurred. It is also possible it sorts itself out if left alone for long enough.

It is possible it is the computer that is at fault and somehow fixed by rebooting the modem. I will investigate this further, but currently I suspect a modem problem.

The main advice on these is to replace the router with another newer one. You could try tesco or www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk or aother similar web sites for a router that fits in your cost band. The normal suggestion is to get a ethernet<=> adsl router rather than a <USB> router. Most pc's/macs have an ethernet connection.

And if it doesn't, fit one. I try to avoid using USB wherever possible when it comes to BB. A PCI ethernet card can be had for just a few pounds and a laptop one for not much more. Worth every penny.
