Help.Strange connection problem with my router

[link to this post]

I hope someone can help me with this one as I am tearing my hair out.
I have recently migrated from Pipex to UKFSN and I cannot get online unless I go through the following sequence.
Once my PC is up and running I have to click on the network connection go into the TCP/IP bit.I then have to click on the "use following DNS server" and enter the DNS number given to me by UKFSN.I then click on various "ok" boxes to get back out.Only then does my routers internet light flicker into life.At this point I still cannot view any pages.I have to go back in and undo the changes I have just made and come back out.Only then can I get online.Of course one I switch off my PC I will have to go through the whole lot again next time I want to get online.

I have confirmed with UKFSN that my details in my router are correct.I was with Pipex for 4 years without any problems connecting and the only thing I have changed is my logon and pasword to connect to UKFSN.My router is a Linksys but I cannot recall the model number.
Thanks for looking and hope someone can help.

Tried flushing the DNS cache ?

Open a command prompt and type : ipconfig /flushdns

Does the pc get it's ip address via dhcp or is it static ?

The ip address is static, but I have not been told to enter it anywhere on my router or PC
I will try flushing when I get home .

Not the ip address the ISP provides, the ip address the pc uses.

Yes, if you set it up for DHCP at the router, and set your network settings on the PC for the PC to get an IP address from the router, you won't have to mess about with DNS settings on the PC.

Sorry zebedee, you will have to explain what I need to do.
In the setup page under DHCPRelay Server I have a tick against "Enable"There is also "Disable and "DHCP Relay" option.

You don't want DHCP RELAY enabled as this is trying to pass addresses gained from your ISP to your PC.

If yout PC doesn't have a static IP address, then I suggest you turn off DHCP relay, enable the routers' dhcp server and also check the box similar to "use the router as a dns relay/server"

If you let us know which router, then we can be more specific.

What I do not understand is the router must be working OK because I can get online when I follow the steps in my first post.If I buy another router would I not get the same results?

Well I did try to download a manual so I could help in a more detailed way, but the Linksys server was so slow I gave up. What you need to do is to switch on the DHCP server within the router, and then in Windows XP go to Start >> Settings >> Network Connection >> Local Area Connection. Then click on the "Properties" button, then in the box that opens up, highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and then click on the "Properties" box underneath it. Then click on "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain a DNS server address automatically". If you don't have XP the procedure will be slightly different.
