Worth Updating a DG834PN?

Is there any point in updating the firmware that came with my NETGEAR DG834PN?

It came with version 1.03.18
and the update available for it is:
1.03.25

Anyone, there must be other 834PN users out there please [bump]

I actually had an issue with 1.03.25

After a few hours or even days of web browsing I was finding that page to page was getting slower and slower till it virtually ground to a halt (and the router might even loose connection).
After a few mins it would be ok but the cycle would keep repeating itself so I reinstalled 1.03.18 and everything was fine.
I even rest the router and tried 1.03.25 (re dled too) again but I immediately had the the old issue back.

With v 1.03.18 I have yet to loose connection and has proved very reliable.

PS. I brought up the issue with Netgear who are looking into it (but they didn't seem suprised!).

as a fellow PN user i need some assistance

currently run DG834M fantastic. bought new PN vesion and can I connect to the internet - no way

followed instructions to the letter on new kit but cannot get solid green internet light (flashes several times to yellow) tried all sorts - with new cabling have tried my trusty old M and finds internet connection straight away. - any ideas anyone - anything would be a help.

I would suggest you have a nose around all the settings you have put in, especially in the first three sections which are the main core of settings really.

When you get to putting in you ISP details, make sure they are 100% accurate and if I remember correctly there is a "Test" option. Tried that?

Thanks for the hint. I did try the test button but said I had no BB connection which I was quite expecting as i understood that the DG834PN modem/router would recognise i have BB already and the ADSL icon would blink orange for a few mo's and then go green as i currently have a BB connection.
It currenlty flashes orange and goes off.

I have tried all sorts of combination old cables wih new kit, new cables with old kit and always works ob the old DG834M not a problem.

Even set a restore point other day, plugged it in,loaded software and settings etc ,thinking may need settings to identify it was plugged into ADSL line but no joy. couldnt find DNs as couldnt connect to ADSL.retored back to previous plugged back in and bingo old kit works a treat as it always had.

I returned and exchanged first DG834PN thinking it may be faulty as i had tried everything only to have same happen second time, and blow me second one has dicky power light that does not stay on -even though there is power to it.

I am stumped - have followed intructions to the letter with no connection and yet my old kit i can just unplug power and re plug and finds it no bother. Even moved house and it was ok.

Tried wizard on new one ,it said no so did manual configuration as couldnt find net to find ISP details


OhoHoHoh - what am i to do - cant return second bit of hardware - PC world will think I am up to something.!!!!!

Any other good ideas please most welcome.

Seriously - buy something other than Netgear - you've seen the Quality Assurance, the online support is not as good as that.

Thanks for last note - but still having issues here.

Checked settings etc and all ok - checked and verified to my old DG834

When iconnect modem router to filter should i get a green ADSL connection at that point as my old modem router does no problem. instructions even say i should but i just get flashing orange.

tried with my old one after restoring pc back and with only power and tel cable plugged in gota solid adsl connection. did sametest with new kit and still got blinking orange.

I had an issue with my 834PN and support suggested the following:

1) Press the reset button by holding down for 1 minute with a paper clip, which you could find next to the antenna on the router. Look at the diagram provided on the bottom of the router to locate this button.
2) At the same time, for the first 20secs, let the power cable be plugged in the router.
3) For the next 20secs, unplug the power cable.
4) For the last 20secs, once again plug in the power cable of the router.

(Note: you need to hold on the reset button for the entire 1 minute, do not let it go).

Now reconfigure the router and check for the connections.
