BT Filtered Faceplate or 3rd Prty Faceplate

Hi all,

I'm thinking of moving my master socket to a better location so I can plug my router directly to the master socket rather than an extension to improve my figures.

If I decide to take this route, are the BT supplied filtered faceplates sufficient, or are 3rd party faceplaces such as those by Solwise, Clarity, ADSL Nation etc better?

Just a thought whilst I was typing this actually, do I run the risk of degrading my figures having the faceplate moved, i.e. joining the original cable to the house with new cable, or is this not an issue?

The Solwise and Clarity ones claim to be BT face-plates with factory fitted modifications (i.e. unfiltered terminals). The ADSLnation one is a different design (which they claim to be better).
I've used all three and the differences (if, indeed, there are any) are so small, they're wiped out by the random nature of sync speeds.
Why not put your router next to the existing master socket and run a CAT5 ethernet cable to your PC (which will have no effect on the ADSL performance)?

I'd love to put my router near the master socket, but it's not a practical option due to it's location and the fact that there's 4 devices permanently connected via cable

I might aswell say this before someone else does.

Its illegal for you to move the master socket yourself, you'd have to pay BT to do it.

Why not fit a filtered faceplate and run an adsl only extension, like BT used to do before wires only?

If the location of the master socket is a real issue, then sure, you can't move your router to sit next to it.

But if you can get around this, you can still run a single cat5e or cat6 Ethernet cable up to where your PC is. If you have other devices which need to attach to the Ethernet, put a switch in next to the PC - they're cheap enough. Trust me, it'll yield a better solution than having your ADSL signal running all over your house.

There is no easy or visually pleasing way of running cable from the master socket to the PC other than externally.

It's hard to describe without seeing it, but it really isn't an option to run cables internally, externally is the only route and with a BT engineer offering to move it and fit a faceplate all in for

The problem is that the wiring before the faceplate will be unfiltered, so by adding lengths of wire before the faceplate is sort of negating the effects of fitting one.
The idea is to keep the length of unfiltered wiring as short as possible.

The XTE-2005 is designed by ADSL Nation and is unique to us. The (BT) faceplate sold by clarity is made by Pressac and is sold by many other places including Solwise. We also stock the same faceplate sometimes when stock of the XTE-2005 is low and it is called NTE-2005.

There are 3 manufacturers of faceplates. ADSL Nation, Austin Taylor and Pressac. the faceplates most commonly found on the internet are the Pressac model the ones that are sold by Clarity and Solwise are identical to the NTE-2005. Some places sell the XTE-2005 such as broadbandbuyer stock our faceplates but they are clearly marked as such. We only sell the XTE-2005 with our logo on so if you see a faceplate that looks similar but does not have the ADSL Nation logo on it is probably the Austin Taylor model as externally it looks similar to the XTE-2005 but internally it is very different.
