Router Suggestions

[link to this post]

Maybe not a router, but what I want to do is this:

Allow my sone on line for a period of time and blacklist certain sites. Let's say I want to allow him 1 hour on line, I know I'll forget so a simple unplugging isn't the answer. Is there a router, or software I can run on my own machine to cut it off after an hour? What's my best way of doing this? Any suggestions would be great. Also, what router would you suggest, I currently have a speedtouch 585 but I don't know if it'll work the way I want. I don't use the wireless on it, just wired ethernet cables.

Rather than a router, you could try a software solution. I've played around with K9 Web Protection in the past and it will certainly allow you to limit what sites are accessible. It's produced by Bluecoat who make web filtering systems for big corporates.

I can't recall if you can limit the online time, but as the software is free there's no harm in trying it out. It's certainly likely to be more effective from the filtering point of view than anything a router will provide on its own.

the only router I know of which can do this, e.g. set time schedules down to a particular IP address would be from Draytek (e.g. Vigor 2800 series).
