Hi,
For some time now I have had a problem with my ST585 router.
The problem is that the ADSL connection dies after some time (a few hours). The web page of the router indicates that the DSL is up but the Internet (TCP/IP) is down stating:
Link Status: Disconnected
Last Error Message: Disconnected because idle timeout reached
Using the Internet test facility the results are:
Test Succeeded DSL
Test Failed ATM No ATM activity detected on your DSL line.
Test Failed PPP Disconnected because idle timeout reached
The ADSL router will not reconnect in this condition, only a reboot of the router will work.
I am given to understand that this is an issue with the 6.1.4.3 firmware on the router when on long lines and have contacted Speedtouch about it over 2 months ago. The suggestion was that they were going to release updated firmware but this has not yet happened (as far as I can see).
Has anyone any ideas on how to fix this, perhaps with older firmware otherwise I am going to have to consign this router to the bin ?
Cheers
Terry

I'll tell you my experience, I had exactly the same problem, I eventually downgraded the firmware and it was fine. Then a couple of months ago or so I decided to retry the 6143 firmware and it hasn't happened since. The only difference is before I reupgraded to 6143 I did 2 x successive factory resets on the router, it's been fine since.

I would certainly be interested in a solution to this as I have had the same problem with my 585. In early January Speedtouch support said that they were aware of the problem and would let me know when there was a solution. To date, I have heard no more from them and think that it is long past the time where they should sort this problem out as several other poeple have reported the same fault on this site.
Meanwhile, my BT Voyager continues to connect without any problem.
I have tried different firmware versions without success. In my case, the router seem to work OK for 2 to 3 days then refuses to connect, even if I reboot. I switch to my Voyager for a few days and then when I go back to the Speedtouch it works again for 2-3 days. Annoying when I need the connectivity for 2 wired PCs and one wireless laptop which the Voyager does not do.
The Speedtouch is often recommended on this site but I for one would not recommend it at all and am hoping to take it back to where I bought it for a refund as I feel I have waited long enough.

I have just received firmware version 6.2.15.5 from Speedtouch Technical support for UK usage in an attempt to fix the "idle timeout reached" bug. Testing this at the moment. Initial results look good, but DMT no longer works and you cannot set the target SNR using the "adsl config modemoption parameter" ...

Any chance you could put this firmware up somewhere? I don't believe anyone's seen a UK-specific 6.2 firmware anywhere yet.

Thanks for coming back on this.
I have not received anything from customer support and cannot find their support page at the moment but if anyone knows a location for this new firmware it would be welcome.

The Email, with the firmware, that I received from ST explicitly forbids discolsure without the consent of the email author. So I will ask ST if this is Ok to release ...

Fair enough. They'll say no so don't bother emailing them.

Ok - found the link to the new 6.2.15.5 firmware in the "Speedtouch 6.2.G firmware" topic in this forum. Installed it yesterday and so far OK but usually the problems do not start until after 2-3 days so will wait and see.

After 5 days the 6.2.15.5 firmware seems to be working well with no idle timeout errors and longer than normal continuous uptime. Anyone else had any improvements from this ?
