No I don't have MSN/WLM connected all the time and so what I think you are saying is that the lack of traffic on my connection (when the PC is off) may contribute to the problem?

I'm not really that bothered about it as it has only happened the once but it's annoying when it does happen!

The 6.2.15.5 firmware appears to have been working well for some time now.
My router has stayed up although there has been numerous reconnects.
Now I have to try and get my ISP/BT to look into my line problems that are causing the ittermittant low SNR's ....

Well it's just happened again after 3 days of working.

Dsl light on, Internet off and "Disconnected due to idle time out reached". Try to connect manually - no success, Reset to factory settings - no success, Re-type password - no success, plug in BT Voyager - connected in seconds.

It's not the fact that it disconnects that is the problem, I accept that my line is so poor that this is going to happen, the problem is that the Speedtouch will not reconnect when the Voyager will.

In January Speedtouch support said

"This is a known issue , that is being worked on. I will keep you informed of any developments." When I asked for progress on March 8th I just got an acknowledgement of my email.

Meanwhile I have bought a used Netgear 834 on ebay which I hope to receive in the next few days.

Just received firmware 6.2.16.3 from Speedtouch support so will try it and report back

How did you get on?

I've just had the timeout problem for the second time so I was also thinking of upgrading my firmware from the current 5.1.4.3 version in an attempt to get rid of the timeout errors as it's annoying.

By the way where did you get the newest firmware from as I've tried the 'official' SpeedTouch website and only the 5.1.4.3 firmware is available

Not convinced one way or the other yet. Connection failed yesterday and couldn't get back on so reverted to BT Voyager again. Back on the Speedtouch today now connected for 9 hours with no problem so far.

6.2.16.3 firmware came from Speedtouch support after reporting the problem in December 2006.

You still had the timeout problem even with the newer firmware!

SpeedTouch really need to sort this problem out as quite a few 585 users are being affected now

I've changed to the new hardware and noticed this alot less now, but its cause by a drop of around 3-4db. If my connection drops to 4-5dp then my connection will go really slow and eventually disconnect I then noticed it cant reconnect because of:

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 293 / 0

This will keep counting until I reset my DSL connection. Once I reset I can then connect fine. Don't know if that helps anyone or if anyone knows how to sort out this issue?

yes this could be the cause in the past when my snr margin has simply got too low but not caused a loss of synch it simply kills of the ppp. Curly may also be having this problem as he has a low snr margin.
