Yes this is true.

Through the day my margin is at 6 dB but in the evenings it drops to only 3 or 4 dB.

I have downloaded the SpeedTouch 4.4.2.1 firmware upgrade wizard and will use it the next time I suffer the timeout problem.

I start to get the timeout problem at around 5-6db but I start out at 8db. My connection doesn't last long as my signal is horrible. Every time the phone is in use I cannot connect any more.

I only use my master socket with 1 phone plugged in and the internet with no extensions. This has the BT ADSL Faceplate on it yet every time someone uses the phone I disconnect or just randomly disconnect

Any Ideas?

Earlier on this evening, my SNR margin went down to 2 dB as sometimes happens but my router didn't drop the connection and neither did I suffer from the 'idle timeout' problem which was surprising!

Remove the ADSL faceplate and connect a new ADSL filter to the test socket and then connect your router to the filter, as well as your phone. That will tell you if the ADSL face plate is faulty.

Just to update you on my experience - things seem to have settled down now and I can say that although the idle timeout problem has not totally gone away, the 6.2.16.3 firmware has improved the operation of the St585 so that it stays connected for longer (over a day is good on my line) and also does not suffer the timeout problem as often as it did.

It's a little too early to tell for me but so far in just over a day I have not had the timeout problem.

Also my errored seconds count is much reduced!

p.s. only 4 errored seconds and the reason why my SNR margin is so low is that in the evenings this always drops to between 3 and 4 dB and recovers back to 6 dB throughout the day.

I have been running the 6.2.16.3 firmware release for 5 days, 0:57:32. The connection hasn't dropped once. I think the problem is fixed

My connection has been up for over 3 days so it's looking good for me too!

Do you find that the new firmware only shows a very low errored seconds count?

Mines only showing 22 errored seconds after 3 days and over a GB of data downloaded!

On the old 6.1.4.3 firmware, this figure would be very much higher

With this firmware though you cant use the DMT tool am i right, so if i bought the ST585 for the purpose of using DMT with it does that mean i'm gonna have a router thats disconnecting all the time cause i'm not using the later firmware which doesn't support DMT?.
