Which Rock Solid WiFi DSL Router on a long line?

[link to this post]

Hi, I could use some advice on which WiFi DSL Router to buy for my elderly parents first trip into Broadband. I am looking at the following topics:

- It needs to be rock solid without needing to be reset frequently etc
- Vendor support including firmware upgrades should be good
- Their DSL service is predicted at 512k due to being on a long line so long-line friendly is required
- Cost is a factor as they are pensioners so would prefer to stick to

For this situation, an alternative you may wish to consider is a USB modem like the ST330.

Its as simple as it gets, cheap, and ok on long lines.

I wouldnt like to explain to my dad, "log onto the web interface to check line stats" etc etc.

Its what i would recommend. Seriously.

The SpeedTouch 585v6 would fit these needs. It's good on long lines (should be solid as a rock) and the wireless is decent (we all use wireless in my house and I don't think it's ever dropped in the 8 months I've owned it).

Plus, it can be had about around

Get a router for elderly parents and you don't have to explain anything to them.

You can do it all for them, remotely So much easier (and so much more secure).

Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

Agreed - my 585v6 is nice and stable on my 8.6Km line, and much faster at 736 ~ 800K than the old Home Hub. I would avoid a USB connected device as I have the belief/prejudice that leaving the link active keeps line speed up.
Bought it from DSLWarehouse at
