speedtouch 580 wireless problem

[link to this post]

Hi all,i have recently bought a laptop, but even tho i use my desktop pc to connect to my router by ethernet, for some reason when i connect wireless from the laptop, now i have set security to wep, with passkey accepted in both lappy and router, and initially been able to connect to the interenet, now that the router and lappy have been turned off since,i cannot connect again now.It would connect every time before changing security, once switched off and on?

Is there a setting ive not enabled, and how do i correct the problem.Using vista home, cheers.

The problem you are having is not clear. WEP security is purely wireless so a PC connected by a wired cable is irrelevant.

If you have just started to use a wireless connection to your router the most likely explanation is you forgot to save the WEP configuration to your router's memory before you switched it off.

p.s. WEP is easily hacked. You would be more secure if you used WPA.

You say wep has been accepted, so is vista saying connected? If so what IP address does the computer have?

Are you sure you commited the WEP key into permanent memory on the 580 before switching it off/on

yeah i applied the details,in the router and laptop, but my laptop will not see the router to connect after both have been switched off...it is as if something is not saving,so i can only connect without security.....just started using wireless mate. i will post up what my router accepts on security and what my laptop accepts, and see if anyone can point me to the right solution, thanks again.olly

my router security options;Wep(hex) 2A84ABC123 Wpa-psk 2A84ABC123
And my laptop as all these but which one matches my router best: Security type; non,shared,wpa2-personal,wpa-personal,wpa2-enterprise,wpa-enterprise,802.1x,intel-open with 802.1x,intel-wpa-enterprise,intel wpa2-enterprise.?

Also encryption type;TKIP,AES,with wpa-personal.

From the info off the router i added the wpa code, applied it,and also the same on my laptop, but no joy??

On my router if i select wpa i have to enter a passphrase, which i used the code above, and encryption=tkip or aes,and rekeying interval sec=0

wpa-personal and TKIP are the normal ones that windows defaults to.

The WPA passphrase can be a simple word like MondayTuesday to make it easier to type in. Does the laptop use the built in Windows configuration, or software specific to the wireless card that is built in?
