As the subject really - do any manufacturers make these, or are any going to? With the popularity of Gbit home networks now, I'd have expected one of the big names to release something like this.
I've seen a few routers with Gbit switches about, but no ADSL modem. Anyone know more than me?

It's probably because ADSL peeks at 24Mbps at the moment so gigabit Ethernet is a bit of an overkill.

What about if you've got a server and a desktop connected to the router and they've both got Gbit NIC's ?

I would suggest buying a gigabit switch or router.

On that basis, so is 100Mbps Ethernet...

Yes, for most people. But I seem to remember Ethernet going from 10Mbps to 100Mbps so I suppose 100Mbps was needed to cope with 24Mbps.
I assume that at the moment gigagbit chipsets are more expensive than 10/100 Mbps chipsets, with a margin sufficient to be meaningful in consumer devices.

I'm not at all sure that 100Mbps Ethernet had much to do with ADSL, but you could be right... and I'm sure you're right in that cost is a major factor in the (non-)availability of gigabit modem/routers.
It's probably the usual story of no manufacturer wanting to take the risks in being first

I didn't mean to imply that 100Mbps Ethernet was introduced because of ADSL.

Fair enough, your post could be read two ways and I picked the wrong one
