usb adaptor replacement

[link to this post]

I've got a DT834GT and a WG111T wireless adaptor. Had this set up for a while but occasionally I get a BSOD (more frequently lately) when watching video online usually and the minidump indicates it's the dongle. Checked around the net and it appears this is an ongoing issue for some which Netgear don't have a fix for. I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a suitable, as good or better, replacement for the WG111T?

Cheers

Which OS are you using? Looking at the WG111T it seems to utilse the Atheros AR5005UG chipset of which there seems to be later drivers available than the ones offered on the Netgear website. Maybe try http://www.atheros.cz/ uninstall the netgear driver and then force install the Atheros driver. (Goto device manager, double click the WLAN dongle, click upgrade and then click on let me pick from a list of device drivers, then point to the .inf file of the Atheros drivers, then choose the correct device.)

I did this with a Belkin PCI wireless card of which they claimed didn't support WPA but with a forced driver update from Ralink I was able to get WPA functionality.

This could fix the stability problems associated with your dongle.

Sorry for delay in replying, didn't check back. Thanks for this info, I'll maybe have a go with what you suggest though the current driver I'm using appears to be dated later than the one you suggest.

Would also like a recommendation for a replacement dongle if anyone has one.

Thanks.
