Hi, a friend of mine recently got a new router from talk talk (Echolife HG520s) that he has been having problems with.
He gave me his laptop and router so I could configure it for him but I have tried everything and still
not found a solution. The problem is that although I can connect to the router, I can't actually
connect to the internet (meaning I can't open any web pages). I know the laptop isn't the problem
because I successfully connected it to my BT Homehub and it worked fine. I also tried the installation
cd that came with the router, which just kept failing when trying to configure the router.
Any suggestions?

Which ISP are you trying to connect to with it, on which line? And which ISP are you with?
I thought TT routers were pre-configured for the user's account?

At his house, he has a BT line and its the same over here. He gave me his TalkTalk username and password. I think its just a matter of correctly configuring the router. I've tried all of the configurations I've found, including the one on the talk talk website. But still nothing.

TalkTalk LLU? I'm not very network savy.
I tried configuring it to the settings found on the website which looks similar to what you wrote.
"Muliplexing VC, VPI/VCI 0/38"
But nothing.

Hi Slimbiggins,
my advice would be to register and post on www.talktalkmembers.com with your friends details and we will be able to help you resolve the issue.

Does the router have any status pages? i.e. so you can see if the router is seeing the ADSL signal? Out of a box from brand new most ADSL routers will sync (lock onto) the ADSL signal. The other settings are relating to authentication to let you out to the internet via the ISP.
Alternatively if they have their talktalk username/password you can try any other router on the line.
The simple answer could be you are configuring the router fine, but there is no ADSL signal, or if a signal they have the wrong username/password, or some other fault, e.g. line is connected to wrong hardware at exchange

If your own ISP isn't TalkTalk then you won't be able to connect to it from your premises anyway.

Sorry about the late reply.

He has taken the router & laptop back to his house and has reverted to using his old talk talk modem. But he has the same exact problem. I think you might be right about the username and password, I have told him to contact talktalk to check it.
I'll let you know as soon as he calls back. By the way the old modem he is using is a Huawei SmartAX MT882.

Thank you so much MrSaffron. You were right, TalkTalk gave him the wrong username and password.
His modem is working now.
Thanks again.
