My ISP is PlusNet and i have a static IP although it looks like im not using it at pesant with the modem i am using and wanted to know if its best to use the static IP or not..

Also i wanted to know is there anyway to change the name of teh modem when you log in from Admin to something else I have changed the password but would like the other changed to something else

DG Team is popular and allows a bit of tweaking to increase your speed a bit.

DG Team firmware allows you to change the username as well as the password.

DGTeam firmware based on netgear firmware v1.02.16
http://dgteam.ilbello.com/
GaTi firmware based on netgears firmware v1.02.19
http://atuts.blogspot.com/
They both allow tweaking of noise margin and changing the router login name.
My preference is GaTi.
If you go for DGTeam, don't set it to block IM (instant messaging) ports. Strangely this setting causes problems sending email attachments.

If you decide to stick with the an offical Netgear firmware, then the latest two do have issues with DHCP.

I'm starting to wonder if Netgear will ever be releasing the updated firmware which reputedly fixes that stupid DHCP bug?!?!

They have fixed the Bug. It just dependes when they release the firmware.

I am running v1.03.22_Test2_VPN on Beta which has been fine for 3 months.

v1.03.22 has been released for months. Is that the release version of what you are testing?

UPDATE: New version of DG TEAM firmware just out.

No

v1.03.22_Test2_VPN was sent to me as I had a support log raised and the release version of 1.03.22 did not fix the DHCP issue.
