Will this upgrade fix the problem?

I have a long phone line, and use a 2wire router (2700HG-B) with talk talk. However, the wireless range does not seem to be that great around the house? The biggest problem seems to be the signal drifting from very strong, to 'nothing' as we try to use the laptop in the kitchen.

Would a Billion BiPAC 7800N (which I understand is also good on long lines) help fix this? Is the wirelss signal likely to be significantly better than the 2wire?

Maybe, maybe not.

For wireless signal issues, best bet is to site a second wireless access point (NOTE NOT wireless router) in a more advantageous position.

Changing to teh Billion - it might be better, or it might be worse.


As for teh 2700, it depends on which 2700 you have - some can be tweaked to increase wireless power, but not all can.

You best bet is to get another WAP in some form site it where you need coverage and connect it to the original router using a cat5e cable. Get another 2700HGV or 2701HGV of ebay and use that.

A second 2700 with DHCP off works extremely well as a WAP. I have three here and more elsewhere running that way.

At £5 off ebay they are a lot cheaper than WAPs

i have ordered one of these;

TP-Link TL-WA901ND Advanced Wireless N Access Point for around £30

Question is, do I need to run a CAT5 from my existing 2wire to the Access point, or can I link the two wirelessly?
