I've been using iPerf for mine. It's command line and will require an iperf server listening on the other end too.

Have you read the manual for using iperf, it's like 50 pages. Insane!

Command line, run iPerf server and 50 page manual was not quite what I had in mind when I asked for some simple options to do simple measurement to see if worth upgrading Homeliness plugs.

Are there any simple tools to measure home LAN network speed - people seem to be able to quote figures easily.

I just used file shares, not scientific, but that is what most people will be doing across network, i.e pulling files off a server to play on another device.

Adds to my todo list an option for tbbmeter to do a LAN peer to peer type transfer test.

And with the file shares just look at rate in task manager network window?

You can yes. I used a very fast laptop with SSD as the source machine, and another laptop as the destination, and pulled the copy sitting at the destination. Turn off (better uninstall !) antivirus software first.
