Not my speciality . You think t may do all you want then? I didn't see a price. The RT-N66U is fairly expensive, as well as what you say about wasting most of its guts as a WAP only.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I currently run the RT-N66U in access point mode...one advantage it does have in my scenario is that it has five gigabit ports as opposed to the four 100Mbit ports on the TRENDnet.
Yes if you need the gigabits ports its a neat solution, but 8port GigE switches are pretty cheap (£20) if that is all you need. My mate who needs working WiFi has no wired devices, and the Sky routers are supported but have [censored] 2.4Ghz only wifi. Not good for saturated areas (flats).
N66U is £109 today on Amazon, or the AC68U is £166; both a lot more than switch (£20) + WAP (£36). Depending on your needs of course

I'm hopeful, its really annoying a major UK ISP hasn't updated their router specification, if they had, I'd have recommended getting an upgraded Sky router (they need to match the features of the BT HomeHub 5 and/or the Virgin Media SuperHub 2) with 5 GHz support and preferably AC. Especially for FTTC customers.

Yeah, the Sky Hub is really ageing in its specifications now. I couldn't believe the Hub 2 came out with the same specifications as the Hub 1, in terms of wireless capability. And I haven't heard a peep about any potential Hub 3 yet.

I didn't buy the N66 as an access point/switch but as a router - it's been replaced by another router so now it performs a different duty. What's the real world speed of a 300/600 Mb wireless access point vs a 100Mb port?

Thanks The N66U can be configured in an AP mode, but it seems overkill to lose most of its features OTOH, it means you've got a spare router if the other one goes belly-up for any reason.

It is amazing, perhaps Sky HQ is overloaded with sorting out the O2/BE acquisition, but they are late with a dual band, at least dual stream, router for their FTTC clients.

Yes, not interesting for performance, the ADSL itself is syncing at 22meg,and no chance of fibre for years - its more for getting rid of the 2.4GHz problem that has arrived.

Very true; and if it was me, I'd buy the 66, but its for someone where price is king.
