The alarm is likely to be running at 868 MHz which sounds totally different to the 2.4 and 5 MHz bands used by WiFi. However, when transmitting the output power could be enough to saturate or swamp the front end of your WiFi receiver on the router - so yes it could be a potential problem.

At least if you cable to a WAP you should remove that possibility.

Thanks, all. My learning journey continues. I've been reading up on WAPs, wifi extenders and powerline adaptors. So I have four choices now: those three and my original idea of just buying a better router. Not sure how to decide!

The plusnet routers are very good at the dsl connection....just poor at wifi; best to just add a WAP in my opinion.

I can also vouch for the Hub One after getting one from Plusnet.
