No this setting is used all the time

So it isn't acting as a bridge?

I'm guessing the Asus WAN interface may usually be unnumbered when using PPP, but by assigning it a static address within the same subnet as the modem, this also creates a route so the modem becomes reachable.

Are all these screen shots from the Vigor only or are there some Asus ones mixed in there too?

Sorry for my ignorance panda I�m not up in IT at 69 and a novice in broadband and internet I used to swop the wan cable Modem to Router and for stats Modem to PC so started experimenting with trial and lots of errors I have it set up so I just call the vigor up on 192.168.2.1

I think that may be the result of this configuration, another option is to manually specify a route in the routing table of the Asus

Oh I see, the first 2 are the Vigor and the next 4 are the Asus. Very confusing
